Bantayan Island


Bantayan island is a small island located in the northern tip of Cebu. It is famous for two things: great beaches and small population. Bantayan Island is a small island, although a few sites but mostly there are not more than 50 tourists on the island. Bantayan Island is an island in the Philippines, located at the western portion of the northern tip of Cebu Island. It is politically a part of the Province of Cebu.

Bantayan Island is a popular vacation destination in Cebu because of it's world class white sand beach and crystal clear pristine blue waters.  Bantayan Island is one of the favorite destination paradise here in the Philippines in which many local and foreign tourist visitors are attracted to the natural beauty of the island that is so unexploited and so enchanted. It is one of Cebu's best kept secrets.  Bantayan Island is essentially a fishing island group.  It is reported to be within the migration route of fish coming from the equatorial belt of China Sea.

Bantayan Island is the place for those looking for peace and tranquillity away from it all. It does not mean though that when on Bantayan, all you can do is lie on the beach.  Bantayan Island is considered as Cebu fishing ground where shiploads and boatloads of fish are shipped daily to Cebu City and Negros. Tons of guinamos (salted fish) and buwad (dried fish) are delivered to Cebu City and Cadiz, Negros for further distribution to as far as Mindanao and Manila.



Santa Fe is probably the busiest centre on Bantayan and is where all the local action commences. The town also serves as the gateway to the island, where one can find access to the best resorts and tourist attractions around the area.

Santa Fe town where you can find most of the beautiful beaches in the island. One popular beach there is the Yooneek beach.  Santa Fe's resorts are far better than those in Bantayan, and there's no reason to stay in the latter. All resorts are a tricycle ride from the Santa Fe pier. Santa Fe (a known province in the island) has also some very good food and, during the high season, a lively bar scene is a perfect place for you to chill out. They often serve fresh sea foods and excellent Thai foods and it is worthwhile to come back to Bantayan just for this kind of foods.

Bantayan Island is not just a place to relax, but also a place of religious activities. The people of Cebu and Manila to take a trip to the island to witness the procession of Holy Week in the region and also to witness the most solemn practice of faith.  Bantayan Island is just one of Cebu's many landmarks ready to be enjoyed.
